Jorge Gerrero: A water garden is lovely among shrubs, perennials and shade loving plants. It is not good next to your garden because of mosquitoes, snakes, lizards and of course terrapins and rabbits need to drink too. I put a prayer garden or rest area in the corner of our garden. A concrete bench, patio stones, wind chimes and sun dial. Maybe you would like to do the same. Jo Ann
Kristina Brockwell: of course you can. there are tons of sites that show you how to build a water garden.you can do anything from a decorative vegetable garden with a water feature to a full on water garden alongside your vegetable garden, like you're talking about.start with Better Homes & Gardens & then expand your search from there.http://www.bhg.com/gardening/landscaping-projects/......Show more
Blair Abdi: I really don't think a 13ft x 26ft space is too large for a garden (family of 3). You need the space for variety and crop rotation. There is really a lot online for w! ater gardens. The big issue with water gardens is designing one that is pleasant to look at. You can dig a hole and insert a preformed tub, or line the hole with 40mil plastic liner. The rest is cosmetic (stones and rocks and pebbles, sand, plants, etc.)...Show more
Norma Marsalis: First you should plant your food garden, and 1 of each ultra dwarf(gets 4-6foot tall) of each food tree that will produce in your zone http://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/PHZMWeb/# , make sure the food trees/bushes are self fruiting/self fertile meaning you only need 1 and not 2 plants to have fruit. And make sure all plants are organic non-gmo. After your sure you have enough food for the family to be food self sufficient, then you can add the water garden, and the water garden can also include edible plants. For a water garden you might need a pump and make sure you don't get mosquitoes. The water garden can attract predators that would eat pest bugs in the garden. The sound of running wa! ter especially helps attract beneficial predators. The water ga! rden can also help keep mositure in the area making it so you probably don't have to water as much....Show more
