Dick Maisenbacher: I have a Series 1 and it definitely has a hard drive hum. It is generally pretty faint, but is somewhat annoying if the room is otherwise very quiet. (I am likewise irritated by such things.) I am hoping they have improved the sound enclosure since.I am also a big fan of the product, as its benefits certainly far outweigh the sound irritation...
Augustus Sarria: The only time I can ever hear it is when I get right up next to it like when I put a DVD into my DVD player. I've slept in the same room with the TV while it recorded things and while it didn't and it's never bothered me once.TiVo is the greatest thing we've ever bought. Make sure you get the wireless network card so you can transfer the file from your TiVo to your computer through your wireless nextwork (if you have one--if not, get one). You won't notice the light hum it makes, I promise....Show more
Darren Heling: Hi Yumes,We have two TiVOs. One series three and one series 2. ! I am lucky because even when the room is dead quiet I can not hear either one.I have read on the TiVO forums where some have very noisy TiVOs. Weeknees sells upgrade drives for TiVO and from what I read they are very quiet. You might find the TiVO forum interesting. Marcelle Vanlith: In a quiet room, you can hear it. It sounds exactly like a computer hard drive, perhaps a bit quieter. When you are watching TV, it's barely if at all noticeable. It's no worse than if you had a laptop running in the room....Show more
