Why do people in general care much more about Western Europe than Eastern Europe?

Stanton Villao: I believe it is because of the cold war years. People don't really know much about the countries of the east. They would be surprised and shocked by how wonderful and colorful the history of these countries are.I am married to a Hungarian and also live in Hungary 6 months per year and plan on retiring there in a year or so.( I suppose I will be buried there.)I sort of am selfish and want to keep the place a secert for myself. It is not a culture I wish to see destroyed by the west and major capitalism. The way I look at it is, it's their loss and my gain if they stay away....Show more

Dana Russian: I have wondered that myself, I think a lot of it has to do with history and culture and also tourism.

Arnette Dominici: There are lots of Polish women who have come over to work in the UK in the last few years, quite a lot near where I live and to tell you the truth they are no different, just a bit better looking. edit: I'm sure some of the marriages w! ould work out, people are making both the men and the women out to be some sort of monsters.

Carmina Stickney: there is an Eastern Europe

Dorine Nurre: Metfan, you have probably never been to Eastern Europe. If you had been there, you wouldn't have made such a degrading remark. People like you are the ones I was talking about. They take Eastern Europe as a whole, it is not a country but a huge part of a continent and all of its countries are very different anyway. I don't really understand what racism has to do with this question. As a Hungarian, I can't see why people outside Eastern Europe would hate E. Europeans. Racism and hatred are not unfamiliar phrases in that region because of the reasons Lastbattlecry mentioned but that only applies to Eastern European nations "disliking" each other....Show more

Sharron Salin: because eastern europe is just a bunch of former communist farming villages noone really cares about

Willie Tun: I don't know if y! ou can really say that people are uninterested, I would say it! is more likely they are not as educated about parts of Europe which tend to be less tourist areas. Places like United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France - they are places which get many foreign visitors each month, and their popularity only increases business more; hotels are built, cheaper flights are offered, etc. Also, for the past century Eastern Europe was not an accessible place to travel to; only about 10-15 years ago did that change. Under Communist regime, foreigners outside of the bloc were not allowed to visit Soviet countries. So with inability, people did not generally gain interest in the culture. Also, in Western media, Eastern Europe was always portrayed very stereotypically, as being full of bloodsucking Communists living in dull grey cities full of foodlines and beggars...this clearly didn't help people get a clear perspective. There is more interest in Eastern Europe now, but it takes time to build up awareness....Show more

Adrian Sherlin: You may find ! your answer in a strange place, in part. The Scriptures. google 'British Israelism' or 'Israel in Europe' or the like. The bottom line is, the idea is that actual Israel of the bible made there way from Assyrian captivity through the Caucusus region into Europe and toward the west in general, leaving Asia and Eastern Europe. Also, these areas went through Atilla the Hun, therefore "Hungary", the Ottoman Empire, the Kazarian Empire, not to mention the Soviet Era, and through these ordeals are not the same people that once peopled those lands but are considered mixed in large part. Therefore,,,,,racism for the most part is your answer....Show more
