Enough sedation to not remember the procedure, but will be conscious enough to be able to respond to him. I can't grasp that concept...if I am only semi-conscious, won't I still be able to feel pain? He prescribed me Valium to take the night before and the day of my surgery to ease my anxiety, and the usual Vicodin, Motrin, and antibiotics for after. I am still way panicked about the procedure, the pain I could feel with the IV needle, ! the possibility of pain during the procedure while I'm "under," the pain following the procedure during the healing process. Just generally worried about pain! Any advice, personal experience, information would be appreciated....Show moreanswers 1:You will not feel or remember a thing. Don't worry of your face is swollen, I look liked a chipmunk after my surgery. Now before you surgery I'm sure that the surgeon will explain to you what will happen before and after your procedure, be sure to ask important questions such as if you should eat the night before and on the day of more than likely he or she will tell you to eat the night before and hold off eating the day of. If it is okay from the surgeon to eat then do so. Wear comfortable clothing, no high heels, because since you will have Meds in your system you may be a bit groggy and sleepy. Now after the procedure you will not be able to eat solid foods, so I would start out with a broth with soft vegetables that can be easily be crushed, don't lift any heavy things because you will h! ave sutures in your mouth. Also Do not brush your teeth, hold off and w! ait the first week, what you need to do is rinse your mouth out with warm salt water, since it is harmless it will ease the pain, also be sure to take your pain meds and antibiotics, do not use mouth wash because it will sting since you have open wounds. Also please avoid acidic juices since it will sting, drink plenty of water. Use the warm salt water as your tooth brush and mouth wash, and use it after your meals to remove the any food particles from your mouth. Do not spit or suck through a straw, swallow, by doing this you will avoid what is known as dry socket. If you do not know what that means you can look it up via Internet. Now you can try this technique that I used to rinse out my mouth with the water, what you need to do is drink as normal tilt your head back slightly and use a side to side motion of your head and let the salt water drain out of your mouth in the sink. I know it sounds odd but this helped me to avoid spitting or sucking. if you do not like th! e salt taste in your mouth use warm water. During this time please continue to ice your swollen face for at least 2 or three minutes and take breaks in between, since your face will get cold, After the second or third week "Gently" brush your teeth avoiding your open wounds in the back, and continue to use the salt water as your mouth wash until your wounds are fully healed. Then you can switch back to your mouth wash. If you are still feeling pain after a certain about of time after the surgeon tells contact your surgeon ASAP. Light bleeding after surgery is normal, but if you are having Heavy Bleeding again contact your surgeon ASAP.
