Tivo wireless hookup to internet. How do you do it?

Lorine Helwick: i'm no longer into tech stuff the two. yet, i think of i understand what you're asking. Your laptops sound like they are on the spot enabled. Your BIL is installation a on the spot community by installation the Sierra aircard and a using a on the spot router. Your laptops have already got gadgets outfitted into them that permit them to connect with a community. Tivo does not have that gadget. yet, it does have the USB ports that permit you to connect a gadget (adapter) to it. desktops communicate their very own language. A community speaks its very own language. A community adapter interprets those languages so a working laptop or workstation and a community could have a verbal replace. this is my address it. good success placing the community. I controlled to set one up by a Dummies e book and Linksys. I extremely have a set 2 and that i like having it networked. Have an excellent day! Edit: when you consider which you have the Linksys router, be sure whi! ch you place interior the Linksys Easylink consultant. Its on the CD that got here with the router. If/once you have issues including your community it may help you artwork out if the subject is with the internet provider provider, the router itself, or a gadget it somewhat is networked. this is a plus for those people who do no longer understand the place to start finding whilst there's a glitch....Show more

Kara Tabian: First off is this a Series 1 Tivo, a Series 2 (Single or Dual Tuner), or a Series 3. Only a Series 2 or Series 3 are compatible for connecting wirelessly to a network. Her is what Tivo Recommends: To troubleshoot the connection between your TiVo DVR and wireless home network, perform the following steps: Make sure that your wireless adapter is on our list of compatible network adapters. It is important to obtain an adapter with the exact model listed on that list. Verify that your wireless access point or router supports the type of wireles! s adapter you purchased. For example, if you purchased a 802.1! 1g wireless adapter, make sure that your router supports the 802.11g wireless standard. Check the documentation for your router if you are not sure. If you are using WEP encryption, and you entered the password in alphanumeric format, enter the WEP password in hexadecimal format instead. Many routers create alphanumeric passwords that are not compatible with TiVo DVRs. You can find a hexadecimal password (sometimes referred to as a Key or WEP Key) in the configuration settings for your wireless access point or wireless router. If more than one hexadecimal password is listed, always use the first one. To enter the password in a different format, see the article Configuring My DVR to Connect to My Wireless Network. If you are using WPA encryption, re-enter your WPA password to ensure that it is correct. If Last Status on the Phone & Network screen says, "Failed. No network adapter," make sure the USB cable is properly connected to the TiVo DVR and the adapter, an! d make sure the adapter's lights are on. If they are, while the Phone & Network screen is still displayed, disconnect the adapter from the TiVo DVR for 15 seconds and then reconnect it to see if the MAC address appears. If the wireless network adapter is supported but an IP address cannot be obtained, you may need to assign a static IP address. For more information, go to Configuring TCP/IP Settings on My DVR. Check the signal strength. Go to the Phone & Network screen to check the wireless signal strength (press the TiVo button to go to TiVo Central; then select Messages & Settings, then Settings; then Phone & Network). The following may improve wireless signal strength: Place the wireless adapter away from the DVR power supply. Power strips or surge protectors may cause interference and reduce signal strength. In addition, some household appliances, such as microwave ovens and 2.4 GHz cordless phones may also reduce signal strength when they are in use. Ve! rify that the wireless network adapter's antenna is fully extended. Mov! e the wireless network adapter to a higher position, or give it a better line of sight to your wireless gateway (router). Reduce the distance between the wireless network adapter and the wireless access point. Wireless networks typically have a range of 100 - 300 feet, but distances can vary based on walls, floors, and other obstructions. It may be necessary to adjust the location of the adapter or of your wireless access point or router to be closer to the network adapter attached to your TiVo DVR(s). Consider adding a signal booster to your network (available from some wireless equipment manufacturers). Check the network name. In Wireless Settings, verify the network name (SSID) for your network access point is listed correctly (press the TiVo button to go to TiVo Central; then select Messages & Settings; then Settings; then Phone & Network; then Change network settings). To change the network name, see the article to Configuring My DVR to Connect to My Wireless Networ! k. Optimize your network connection. The speed of the transfer depends on a variety of factors including wireless signal strength, network activity, recording quality, and the use of other devices such as microwaves, portable phones and baby monitors. To improve transfer speed, record programs at lower quality (to reduce the amount of data that needs to be transferred), remove devices, and do not transfer other media when transferring programs from one DVR to another. If you are still having issues with your wireless network connection, your wireless network adapter may be faulty. Contact the manufacturer of the adapter for assistance. If you are using the Tivo 802.11G Wireless Adapter then you need to configure it for your system as far as WEP or WPA encryption. According to Tivo's site ONLY the Tivo Wireless Adapter can be used with a Tivo even with WPA or WEP Encryption. If this is not the Tivo Brand Wireless adapter then this may be the issue.I hope this hel! ps, if you have any more questions please feel free to send me an email! .....Show more
