Corrina Faro: I know the exact same feeling! Studying abroad is a great experience and I personally think that you should do it if you really want to do it. Japan is also a great choice because their culture is so rich with history and vibrant at the same time. I am a study abroad program advisor for AYUSA Global Youth Exchange and we help students like you to study abroad. Tell your friends and family about some great benefits of studying abroad! Here are some examples:* cultural immersion* improve foreign language skills* increased independence & maturity* living with a host family * enhance college applicationExchange programs like us help you find a host fami! ly to live with and also find you a local high school to attend. Most of the time, you will be taking classes in the local language and fully immersing yourself in the culture. First of all, lets see if you can meet some standard requirements. The requirements for AYUSA and most similar study abroad companies are listed below:1) Be a high school student2) 15-18 years old (Japan is REALLY strict about the age requirement, so you must NOT turn 19 while on program)3) 2.5GPA on a 4.0 scale (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)4) 1 year of Japanese language requirement (must be taught by a teacher or tutor or someone who can evaluate your speaking capabilities)5) Sound and stable mental and physical health 6) Responsible, mature, adaptable, resilient, and excited about cultural exchange7) Have parent & school support Secondly, the next step is to look at different companies and see what they offer. You must be careful when looking for a company because there are a ! lot of scams. Make sure that you find a company that includes! everything you want and have a reputation for being reliable. For instance with AYUSA, the cost of our programs include all of these:*international airfare*health insurance*room & board*placement in language school & host family*pre-departure & guidance and preparation*in country support & assistance*daily excursions & activities, and a program finale (summer)*Global Student Course (semester/trimester/academic year)You should also check out CSIET to see a complete list of reliable and reputable study abroad companies (link below). I know I gave you a lot of information, but hopefully it'll give you an idea as to what you need to do and what you should look for in a good study abroad company. Good luck!P.S. You should also probably know that you won't be placed in the 12th grade class and you will most likely will not be receiving letter grades or credit if you study abroad in Japan. Their school system is very different than ours and you probably won't know enough Eng! lish to do well (they rely on testing a lot!) However, most students don't care about the grades and just want to go to Japan for the awesome experience :)...Show more
