Ideas for Nikon Coolpix?

Silvia Stclair: I returned my Nikon Coolpix (3100) -- it gave a very odd look to my photos.... the colors were "off", no matter what setting I used. I white balanced but it still gave my images this weird hue to most of my photos. I finally returned it and went with Canon.... and WHAT A DIFFERENCE it made to my photos. Perhaps I just got a bad Nikon, but I'll never by another one regardless. But anyway..... a good tip is to take some shots from different angles and points of views (from laying down on the ground, to simply turning the camera sideways (or partially sideways). It can get you some very interesting looks to what otherwise might be considered a boring or typical shot.As for programs to use, consider Corel Paint Shop Pro, or Photoshop Elements (it's the home-consumer version of Photoshop (professional version) -- but cheaper and more user-friendly. Either one will be more than enough for what you want to do....Show more

Heidy Fujikake: Reset all of the set! tings within the camera and see if the flash works then. It recognizes that the flash isn't firing, which tells me that you have turned it off in the menu somewhere. You are getting the blur/yellow tint because the camera isn't able to get exposure without flash. Seeing how the flash is turned off your camera is dropping your shutter speed extremely low and your camera is recording every movement you or the subject makes. That's the blur. The yellow is from shooting indoors and the camera guessing at the white balance....Show more

Ulrike Hert: As you say you have a natural talent for visual art, I would suggest you take yourself off to a favorite place on your own. Take a look around you and visualize a scene as you would like it to be in your photograph. Take the picture, but also take it from different angles. Take lots of shots. Pick larger views from around you, but also smaller snapshots from within the whole. You are right about photoshop. As a beginner y! ou do not need it. I have never used any of the free editing s! ites as I got Elements 2 with my first DSLR and used that until I needed photoshop. If you can stretch to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 (it is a good price at the moment) then get it. It is as it says elements of Photoshop. It is very good for editing (I got it for my laptop), and learning it will help soften the learning curve that the full version of Photoshop will be, when you do feel the need for it. Older versions of Elements are also available still at good prices. Hope you really enjoy your camera. Beulah...Show more
